Four young men attend a private viewing at an exhibition. They are there to support and celebrate their friend’s academic and creative success in his Modern & Contemporary Arts (MA).
When Simbai (artist/ graduate) leaves the room before revealing his work to his friends. They find his prize winning masterpiece and are left to observe, and deconstruct Simbai’s artwork before he comes back.

Runyararo Mapfumo
Runyararo Mapfumo has navigated an impressive trajectory in the film industry, progressing from development roles to post-production and establishing herself as a talented writer and director. Her journey includes directing a series of well-received shorts, which led to the notable opportunity to direct episodes of Netflix specials Sex Education Season 3 in 2021 and Kaos Season 1 in 2024. Her achievements earned her a BAFTA nomination for Emerging Talent in 2022: Fiction. Inspired by a passion for genre fiction, Runyararo is now developing her debut feature, a futuristic science fiction film rooted in African mythology, in collaboration with Film4 and her production company, DessyMak Productions.
In her own words, Runyararo describes her love for film as a driving force behind her career, inspired by her first experience on a set and the collaborative nature of directing. Supported by her family, she aims to create impactful work that uses storytelling as a powerful tool to explore familiar themes from new perspectives. Excited about her involvement with BAFTA Breakthrough, she values the recognition as a milestone that highlights her progress and offers new opportunities for growth in longform storytelling.
